Inspirations and World War 1

Over the past few weeks I have been looking at old ww1 photos. I find using these photos a very enjoyable experince in my work as I can sit there and ask myself about the people in the photos. questions such as, how they would feel that i was using there image in my art work, how i can use the photo responseably in my work as ww1 was the bloodiest war the world has ever seen.
yesterday doing my normal rounds of the local junk shops and found these photos of a solider from 1917, its not very often that you find photos from this era in such good condition since they are 108 years old( or round abouts that anyway). Here are two examples of the photos, i guess that many people wount be interested in them, but i find them very intersting to look at and wonder about the past.

Update on recent happenings

I havn't blogged for a while so here goes.....last month I was involed in a brilliant painting event called subway deluxe, this was held in Kidderminster. It was the first live painting event of 2011. I want to to thank dom "deed" dunlea and loz samuels for putting on this event for the second time as its always a pleasure to help give the subways a new lease of life. This is the result of a long day painting.

The Amercian art palette

From the day I started viewing art and artist's, i have always admired American artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, and Robert Rauschenberg. The main draw to me has always been the colour palette that they use in the paintings. The use of shocking reds, blues and faded colours resonates with the way my dyslexic brain peices together the visual image almost sewing together perfect flat colour with worn out paint effects.

This new piece of work made of an old bed frame reflects the colour palette that they used in their work. I have made the work into a palette itself to be a direct representation of there working practices in the studio. I decided to use the big classical frame to contrast the modern look of the piece to give the simple wood palette more gravitas and to contrast the rough look of the work.
