I very much like this picture of Francis Bacon's studio in Dublin. it shows chaos, maddess and productivity in my eyes. This is going to be the subject of one of my future abstracts, trying to represent the chaos but calmness that a studio needs to survive the artists thought process's and everyday use of a single room or warehouse. To me as an artist this has everything that a painting needs mood, texture, movement and plays through a story like a play.
Harrowing is a strong word, but it certainly applies to some places of no human existance after a major man-made disaster. I have recently been trying to find old buildings and towns to paint in. I have been in pursuit of these places for a few months now. I think the most harrowing place to paint is Chernobyl, its one of the few places on earth where everything still remains yet it is the ultimate ghost town. It’s full of memories, lost objects, relationships and human objects to record all of these emotions that were felt in the few hours before the mad dash for safety.
This to me is the ultimate place to paint. Treat, with respect and images will forever be a beautiful reminder of solitude that comes from human disaster. It also so remembrance to those who died in the accident and the family’s that got tore apart in the madness of the last day. I found this video to show some of the beautiful thought provoking imagery painted around the city. I’m not sure who the artists are but they have certainly done a fine and respectful job in my humble opinion.
I painted up the kidderminster subways for the third time. It was re painting the first subway, I decided to go massive with my wall (starting at 12 x 6.5 but slowly got bigger through the day) here are the pictures of my work and at the event....
i will endever to find someone with a better photo as this does not show all the colour fades. catch you lot on the other side.
I now have a new website up and running on the interweb. It supplies people with with canvases, custom murals and canvases. Check regularly for updates on new murals and canvases. see you on there.
over the past 4 days i have been at boardmasters painting with the upfest gallery. these are the results of the first day painting
This piece was situated right next to the exit of the dance tent so the people that had been raving away in the afternoon had something colourful to look at.
Then second day i decided to go with a simpler design with more fades on to taking influence from graffutreism. I will be painting a lot more like this in the future as I was painting the energys of the event, surrondings and people which to me is a very organic, moving way to paint.
Tomorow i set of for boardmasters in newquay. all the bags are packed and im ready to go...... this is the rough sketch i will be painting from.
its based on tents and the waves in the sea, relecting the rocking motion in the wind. pictures of the finished article will be posted when i get back.
the other day i painted outside the upfest gallery. I decided to keep it abstract with the theme being about ballet dancers halfway through a performance. using striking colours to to show the energy's behind the passion and movement. This was an extension of a piece of work i featured on my blog a few weeks ago.
there's a long summer planned for painting, so keep your eyes on this blog for up dates on my latest work and musings.
a very quick blog today. just something i found on the tube which i very much like. i may have to do this soon........ peace out....

Monday, sweet Mondays
I have been looking at vintage heart tattoo designs alot at the moment, not so much because i want one but because of the composition. For me the potential learning exercises in these tattoos are limitless because they help me work out how to wrap images around each other in a cohesive way that makes sense. i then use these ideas on my collages as it also involes picking out certian parts of the design and elongtating diffrent parts to give greater effects to a normally flat image.

new absracts
i have recently been getting into painting abstracts on canvas. my work seems to be getting fluid, pulling shapes out of marks made with diffrent caps, also making quicker judgements and walking away at the right time in the process is becoming ever more importent to me as an artist. This seems to relive stress levels and have a much ore relaxed feel to the work adding to the fun of creating these works. i dont feel that i will be carrying on with solely abstract work but elements of the techniques and colour fades will leak into my style. here is one of the examples.... abstract one spray paint , ink on canvas 50 x 40cm

Painting in the park
Yesterday i spent the day painting in my local park with lilz and mcl. we had much fun and used many paints. here are the results
I just Had a cracking weekend in southport paint at upnorthfest. Sun was shining all weekend. during the weekend meet loads of new friends and caught up with old ones. Here's the finished product of the weekend. cheers to organizers for putting on such a good event.
Over the past few weeks I have been looking at old ww1 photos. I find using these photos a very enjoyable experince in my work as I can sit there and ask myself about the people in the photos. questions such as, how they would feel that i was using there image in my art work, how i can use the photo responseably in my work as ww1 was the bloodiest war the world has ever seen.
yesterday doing my normal rounds of the local junk shops and found these photos of a solider from 1917, its not very often that you find photos from this era in such good condition since they are 108 years old( or round abouts that anyway). Here are two examples of the photos, i guess that many people wount be interested in them, but i find them very intersting to look at and wonder about the past.
I havn't blogged for a while so here goes.....last month I was involed in a brilliant painting event called subway deluxe, this was held in Kidderminster. It was the first live painting event of 2011. I want to to thank dom "deed" dunlea and loz samuels for putting on this event for the second time as its always a pleasure to help give the subways a new lease of life. This is the result of a long day painting.
From the day I started viewing art and artist's, i have always admired American artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, and Robert Rauschenberg. The main draw to me has always been the colour palette that they use in the paintings. The use of shocking reds, blues and faded colours resonates with the way my dyslexic brain peices together the visual image almost sewing together perfect flat colour with worn out paint effects.
This new piece of work made of an old bed frame reflects the colour palette that they used in their work. I have made the work into a palette itself to be a direct representation of there working practices in the studio. I decided to use the big classical frame to contrast the modern look of the piece to give the simple wood palette more gravitas and to contrast the rough look of the work.

NEW WORK, NEW YEAR
These are a selection of new canvases that I have created over the past 3 months. I approach the work in a methodical way as I see the world in the physical sense, its a beautiful, layered and sometimes confusing place to be. welcome to the mind of Nathanael.Draws.
