BEEN A LONG TIME. BUT A LONG SUMMER OF PAINTING..

In this summer of 2010 i having been kicking of my live painting adventures all over the uk. going down to teignmounth to paint the water sports centre was the first of many. you might think that going down to a lovely little fishing town in summer would be lush weather, how wrong was everyone. the event was organized by mos shaw and kate roberts from the Voetstoots Gallery. a great day was had by all, and hopefully gave the locals something interesting to look at.

next came upfest at the tobacco factory. as the event was a mash up james kelly worked on the background and i worked on the os map paste up. this was an exciting new move for my work as i had never worked whith paste ups of with some before.

then came painting the underpass tunnels in kidderminster . this was to improve the area by brightening up the tunnels with a few licks of paint. i chose to use a de-humanized baby by making it look like a crash test dummy.

its been a busy old summer with more live painting to come as i am finding it very quickly becoming my new addiction (adding to a big list already). i hope that one day on your travels you will bump into one of my paintings and maybe cheer your day up a little.

INSPIRATION

Over the past couple of days I have been trying to find where I left it because it just went into the ethos. Its always a pain in the rear end when this happens because you have to start the creative process all over again and work out the reason why it went in the first place.
To cut a long story short it ended up coming back when watching the goldsmiths program on bbc 4. it must have come back to me because it was about students preparing for there final show with the tutors confronting them with the truth about there work ergo making me think about my work in a different light, almost becoming the 3rd invisible person in the room.
So a big thank you to all the people out there that make you think differently forcing you're mind to view the one bit of art thats praying on you're mind.

The Art of Technology

The Art of Technology

This piece was conceived from a thought I had about the shear amount of computer game equipment that is produced every year to keep up with the demands of technology. This early example of a PS1 gun has been left in time to rust because of the obsoleteness of the early technology.

Still rusty at fine art....

I have just recently started picking up paint brushes after 2 years of trying to avoid the dreaded annoying and frustrating nature of fine art painting, but something miraculous happened I actually enjoyed it. I found it to be a freeing experience in two areas. The first one being able to open my mind and experiment with images of ww2 weapons and how they would come to exist now, whether they would be still active laying dormant over many years or in tatters after blowing up peoples lives. The second part of the freeing experience was it was a surprise that I was better than I thought I would be at, yet still quite rusty as my new series of paintings show...
