Artist's Studio thoughts

I very much like this picture of Francis Bacon's studio in Dublin. it shows chaos, maddess and productivity in my eyes. This is going to be the subject of one of my future abstracts, trying to represent the chaos but calmness that a studio needs to survive the artists thought process's and everyday use of a single room or warehouse. To me as an artist this has everything that a painting needs mood, texture, movement and plays through a story like a play.

harrowing graffiti

Harrowing is a strong word, but it certainly applies to some places of no human existance after a major man-made disaster. I have recently been trying to find old buildings and towns to paint in. I have been in pursuit of these places for a few months now. I think the most harrowing place to paint is Chernobyl, its one of the few places on earth where everything still remains yet it is the ultimate ghost town. It’s full of memories, lost objects, relationships and human objects to record all of these emotions that were felt in the few hours before the mad dash for safety.
This to me is the ultimate place to paint. Treat, with respect and images will forever be a beautiful reminder of solitude that comes from human disaster. It also so remembrance to those who died in the accident and the family’s that got tore apart in the madness of the last day. I found this video to show some of the beautiful thought provoking imagery painted around the city. I’m not sure who the artists are but they have certainly done a fine and respectful job in my humble opinion.

Upfest at boardmasters

Organic/energy paintings
over the past 4 days i have been at boardmasters painting with the upfest gallery. these are the results of the first day painting
This piece was situated right next to the exit of the dance tent so the people that had been raving away in the afternoon had something colourful to look at.

Then second day i decided to go with a simpler design with more fades on to taking influence from graffutreism. I will be painting a lot more like this in the future as I was painting  the energys of the event, surrondings and people which to me is a very organic, moving way to paint.

Here are a couple of links from the weekend

mural outside upfest

the other day  i painted outside the upfest gallery. I decided to keep it abstract with the theme being about ballet dancers halfway through a performance. using striking colours to to show the energy's behind the passion and movement. This was an extension of a piece of work i featured on my blog a few weeks ago.

there's a long summer planned for painting, so keep your eyes on this blog for up dates on my latest work and musings.
